In this video, we look at the brake friction curve, the study of tribology, and how brake torque is influenced by temperature. The curve for different friction compounds can define its application. A flat curve will work well for passenger vehicles, for noise and cold friction stops. An upward curve could define a racing or high-performance application. But, a low-quality friction material might have a downward slope that could indicate that the friction material could fade. Andrew Markel explores the relationship between torque and temperature.
